The C²TC Cohort

C²TC is self-paced and asynchronous by design — but learning pedagogy in community is different from learning it alone. The cohort is the optional synchronous layer: four sessions per semester where participants work through questions, share in-progress materials, and build a cross-disciplinary network of instructors who take communication seriously.

Who the cohort is for

The cohort is designed with three groups particularly in mind. New faculty who are building their courses for the first time and want a structured space to think through communication assignments before they go live. Graduate instructors of record who are teaching independently and navigating the gap between their training as scholars and their responsibilities as writing instructors. Teaching faculty who are revisiting courses they have taught for years and want new frameworks for what they already know.

All C²TC participants are welcome, regardless of rank, discipline, or where they are in their certificate work. The cohort is not a seminar and it is not a workshop — it is a working group, and the agenda is shaped by what participants are actually working on.

Session structure

What the four sessions cover

  • 1

    Orientation and framing

    An introduction to the cohort model, the certificate structure, and CWSP's approach to communication pedagogy. Participants share their disciplinary contexts, their reasons for enrolling, and the communication challenges they are most interested in addressing. The session also introduces the capstone as a planning document rather than a final product.

    Assignment design workshop

    Participants bring a current or planned assignment and work through it using the frameworks from their core modules — the rhetorical situation, DAPOE, or multimodal genre analysis, depending on which certificate track they are in. The session is structured around peer feedback using a protocol CWSP provides in advance.

  • 3

    Feedback and assessment practicum

    A working session focused on response practices: how instructors are currently marking student work, what the research says about what actually helps students revise, and how to build feedback into a course design rather than treating it as a grading event. Participants respond to sample student texts and discuss the decisions they made.

  • 4

    Capstone sharing and close

    Participants share work from their capstone projects — syllabi, curriculum plans, digital portfolio assignments, or oral communication modules — and receive structured feedback from peers and CWSP facilitators. The session closes with a discussion of what participants plan to implement, and how CWSP can support them going forward.

Beta cohort · Spring 2027

Join the founding cohort

The Spring 2027 cohort is the first cohort of C²TC. Beta participants work directly with CWSP co-directors to refine the program — reviewing module content, piloting capstone activities, and contributing to the teaching materials repository. Beta participants who meet with CWSP at least once per semester are eligible for a $500 mini-grant to support this work.
